Digital-AV

A ministry artifact of AV Text Ministries

Software Development Kit

With no external dependencies, the Digital-AV Software Development Kit provides the foundation for a fully working bible web-server. In fact, a fully operation server can be implemented with fewer than 1000 lines of code written in Go. As the SDK provides everything required, including data and index files, SDK users are discovering that they can be up and running in less than an hour.  And with working sample code, you can easily jumpstart your development project using the programming language of your choice.

Description & History

  • The Digital-AV is a set of freely available binary files that are licensed with an MIT-style open source license. It facilitates easy development of anything that requires the text of the AV Bible (aka KJV Bible) under the hood.

    Suggestions:

    * web applications

    * mobile applications

    * desktop publishing

    Development of the Digital-AV began in the 1990's when the founder of AV Text Ministries, Kevin Wonus, launched his first Bible search application. That freeware Windows application (http://avbible.net) was maintained for over 10 years. The underlying engine of the application was a library built in C which supplied fast binary file access to the entire bible text. The files themselves later became the foundation for the Digital-AV, 2011 edition. Several applications were authored and released using the 2011 Digital-AV software development kit. Now with over twenty years of validation, the Digital-AV is fit for the task of providing bible text to many varieties of applications. And with its frugal resource footprint, processing overhead can remain at a bare minimum.

  •  The Guttenburg Printing Press represented an early application of technology to publish the Word of God.
